Visitor tracking
When enabled, Diff it measures visits to its homepage, blog and demo, and successful GitHub sign-ins after those visits. This helps us understand which guides bring readers to the product.
A first-party browser identifier
The HttpOnly diff_it_visitor cookie lasts for 30 days. It is sent only to Diff it and cannot be read by page scripts. Our acquisition database stores a keyed hash of that identifier, the time, an allowlisted public page path and a broad source category such as GitHub or LinkedIn. It does not store IP addresses, raw browser strings, raw referrer URLs, query strings, repository details or GitHub tokens.
Your choices
Acquisition collection skips requests with Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control enabled. You can also block or delete the cookie in your browser. Deleting it starts a new browser identity on a later eligible visit. Known bots and prefetch requests are filtered, but visitor totals remain estimates.
Retention and access
Acquisition events are retained for 90 days and removed in bounded batches. Only configured administrators can view aggregate counts. An identified team browser is excluded, including its earlier visits in the retention window. Anonymous team traffic cannot be recognized until sign-in.
This describes public acquisition measurement. GitHub authentication uses separate session cookies; signed-in review activity and saved analyses use their existing application storage.
